Long Answer Type Quesions
■ Answer these questions in about 80-100 words each :―
Q. 1. Can the company of an animal give undiluted pleasure
to a human being?
Ans. The love of animals is pure and unselfish. They demand
nothing in return of their love. They are in many ways better than
man. They are the true friends. Man on the other hand is selfish
and he demands something in return of their love. Man gets
undiluted pleasure from the company of animals. For Example
when writer brought baby bear to his home after the death of mother
bear. Then here developed a deep bond of love between the writer's
wife and bear. When they were separated as Bruno was sent beer to
zoo of Mysore neither Bruno nor his mistress ate anything for
many days. Ultimately Bruno had to brought back as writer's wife
was not able to bear the separation. When they meet each other
after three months, the feeling of joy on their face was indescribable.
The wirter's wife brought him back and even built a separate island
for him and used to spend hours with him in an island.
Q.2. 'Animals also feel the pleasure of love and the pains of
separation'. Support your view by giving example from the
text.
Ans. Animals do share certain human qualities. They can share
love, affection and friendship with human beings. They try to
reciprocate. The author's wife looked after the bear cub as if he
were her own child. She offered him milk from a bottle. When he
grew up she gave him all good things to eat and drink. First she
named him Bruno, then, Baba, meaning little baby. Animals are
not devoid of human feelings and love. Bruno or Baba was ready
to perform any trick at her command. He could feel the pleasure of
her love. But Bruno or Baba was also quite sensitive to feel the
pains of separation. At the zoo, he looked sad and thin. He missed
the company of the author's wife so much that he even gave up
eating for a few days. When she came to meet him at the zoo, he at
once recognised her. He stood on his head and cried in delight. It
was a unique love. Here the baby-bear could feel the pleasure of
motherly love and care that he received from the author's wife. He
also felt the pains of separation when he was away from her.
3. 'Love is mutual'. Illustrate this with reference to "The
Bond of Love'.
Ans. Love is always reciprocal. Love exists not only in human
beings but also in animals. The author's wife develops a unique
relationship with Bruno. She took care of him. She offered him
porridge, Vegetable, fruits, meat, rice eggs etc. to eat. As for drink
she gave him milk, coffee, tea etc. She played with him. She could
not live without him. Bruno loved her too. He could do many
tricks at her command. At the departure of Baba to the zoo at
Mysore, she wept bitterly. Baba also missed her. He refused to eat
anything for a few days. He looked thin and sad. Two dogs, children
of the tenants and the author himself loved Baba and Baba also
loved them in return. Baba was brought back and a special Island
was made for him. Thus, love is mutual.
Q.4. What makes you feel that the mother is more attached
to Bruno than the other members of the family. Give reasons.
Ans. There are number of instances in the lesson which shows
that mother is more attached to Bruno as compare to the other
members of the family. It is the mother who gives her the name of
Bruno and then Baba when he grows up in size. The writer and his
son suggest her to send it to the zoo of Mysore. The others in the
family felt relieved but she could not accept this. In the beginning
she does not eat anything. She even wept and then wrote letter to
the curator to know about Bruno. When she came to know that any
of her friend is visiting Bangalore she asks them to report about
Baba. She even said to her husband to take her otherwise she will
go by train. So the writer has to take her by car. At zoo she feeds
him with number of things that she has brought for him. She even
does not leave the cage for hours she weeps bitterly at the closing
time. She even asks the curator if she can take her Baba back
home. She even went to Bangalore to get permission from the
Superintendent to take her Baba back at home. She does not island.
Baba used to sleep on her lap. All these instances shows that how
the mother is deeply attached to the bear.
Q.5. What happened to Bruno? How did he recover from
them?
Ans. One day an accident befell Bruno. The author kept poison
(barium carbonate) in his library to kill rats and mice. Bruno entered
the library and ate some of it. Paralysis attacked him. The author
took him to the veterinary doctor for treatment. The doctor injected
him 10 cc. of antidote twice. After thirty minutes Bruno came to
his sense. He stood up and ate heavily.
Another time he drank old engine oil which the author had
kept against the inroads of termites. But it had no ill effects.
