यदि मैं फूल बनूँ तो मैं डेजी बनना पसन्द करुंगा; शान्त संध्या के
धुंधले प्रकाश में अपनी कोमल पंखुड़ियों को बंद करूंगा और सुबह में
जगूँगा जब प्रात:कालीन ओस स्वर्ग के चमकीले सूर्य की किरणों का
स्वागत करने नीचे गिरती है और उसके साथ स्वर्ग के चमकीले आँसू की
बूँदें भी।

मैं भद्र लिली से प्रेम करता हूँ। यह अत्यन्त विनम्र और निष्कपट
दिखती है, लेकिन डेजी से ज्यादा प्रेम करता हूँ, क्योंकि ये सब जगह उगते
हैं। लिली ग्रीष्म या बरसात में खिलती हैं, बहुत खिन्न (उदास) दिखती
हैं लेकिन डेजी अंधेरे में भी हँसता-बढ़ता दिखता है।
कवि को जानें― यह कविता बहुत पहले 1860 ई० में न्यूयार्क के
एच०डी० मार्सन द्वारा लिखे संगीत से प्रेरित है। मिड मार्सन ने अनेक
संगीत लिखे जिनमें प्रमुख हैं-'आई ड्रीम ऑफ होम', 'नियर दी बैंक्स
ऑफ दी लोन रीवर' और ब्राइट-ब्लू आइग' ।
